Great piece of folk art, Beeg. I have a wonderful bit of woodworking trivia that might interest you concerning this project. Child-sized rockers have been an American tradition since the early eighteenth century when rockers first appeared in colonial America. (There are some who say they were invented by Benjamin Franklin to help improve the circulation of the old and infirm, but there is no proof of this.) Small rockers were only occasionally used for sitting; they were much more useful as "walkers" -- an apparatus to help a toddler learn to walk. Eighteenth and nineteenth-century parents would tip the rocker over on its front, the baby would grasp the rockers, pull themselves up, then push the rocker in front of them while holding onto the rockers or rails. If you study antique child rockers, you often find tell-tale signs of this practice. The finials at the top of the back posts are worn flat on the front side. In fact, my wife and I have a rocker worn in just this way that was handed down through her family. Heres' hoping yours is handed down too and acquires a history that is just as interesting.

    With all good wishes,
    Nick

Thought I'd throw in a couple photos of my recently finished oak blanket chest. Features of the chest are dovetailed joinery, the till box, two drawers and the breadboard ends on the top.

Great looking blanket chest. Did you have plans for it? How do you open the till box. I assume that is what that is on the right.
