Greetings from Wasilla, Alaska. As a casual wood worker, I have cherished my Shop Smith since I purchased it as a 35 year old struggling to make a living in Washington State. I have since moved to Alaska and have used my SS on few occasions. As now that I have retired, I want to start some projects so, I pulled out the old Mark V and removed the original cover and dusted it off. What a feeling, kinda like seeing an old high school sweet heart again. I began by digging out my owners manual with all the receipts. Wow, $1,100.85 for the whole shebang. In any event, I began going through the maintenance routine and discovered I need a new "Poly V Belt" and read the instructions how to change it. The instructions were so detailed and confusing to me, so I went on the internet and Googled Shop Smith to seek help with the change over. This is how I discovered this forum and related sights. After 29 years of ownership of my Mark V, I have never had a reason to contact Shop Smith regarding parts or service. It's been the best investment I have ever made as far a quality and durability even though it's seen moderate use. How sad to read what is going on with the company and the possible demise of their great product. Now I am concerned about obtaining support and parts in the future. I will try to order my Poly V Belt and see what happens. PS: If any one out there can guide me through the belt change, ie. Short-cuts, I would be great full. Thanks for your time, Lou

While you're ordering the Poly-V belt, consider orering the DVD's "Maintaining and Reparing the Shopsmith Mark V" (volumes 1&2). This way you can watch, pause, and backup someone actually doing the task at hand. And I think Nick's presentations are entertaing just to watch as well.

There is also a gy in Virginia Beach, VA (Jacob Anderson) that does headstock repairs and supoosedly as parts and service guides. http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/jacobvb_the_s_smith_doc/

It is good to hear that you have the ole girl out from under the covers and getting ready to put her back to work. I do not know where you are reading about the demise of Shopsmith but I think that what you are reading is out of date. Shopsmith has had financial difficulties like so many others these days but they are recovering. The company has recently released still another updated version of the Shopsmith and it seems to be selling quite well. I would not worry about getting parts to maintain your old machine. Parts are for most all versions.

A couple other sites to visit:

<p>People are fond of selecting the festivals and holidays to be the time to hold their wedding ceremony since their guests can afford the time to attend this event.
