I just cut down a crabapple tree with a trunk about 2 ft dia. Grain looked attactive so I cut 3 slabs about 5in thick parallel with the ground. However, wood strength charts contain no info on apple trees. Questions: Is this wood suitable for end table tops? How do I dry it and keep it from cracking? Thanks.

    Found this website entry:

Also saw another that said that the wood is best cut/carved when green. Apparently pretty hard after drying.
