We are about to begin our dream home. A authentic 150yr old log cabin. One log pen will be 22'x22'. Inside open span will be about 20 ft long. We want to have a main beam across whole length with smaller maybe 3"x10" running to it. What species would you choose and what size for the main beam and the smaller beams? We are having red and white oak mix 2x6 tongue and groove flooring/ceiling sawn to go above the beams. So will 30"centers be close enough on the smaller beams? We have oak, tulip poplar, beech, and pine (loblolly and shortleaf) we can cut on our farm.

I would love to think I could help but I have no experience with log building.
