Nick I watched your video on the Sand Flee and would like you opinion on some operations with it. First I buy all my stock 13/16 and straight lined ripped. How does the SF work with longer stock of say 3 or 4 feet and 2 to 8 inches wide. Usually there will be some slight bows or crowns in a lot of the material that I use. Can I surface sand these pieces and still keep the uniform thickness? I am not trying to get the bow out only to surface sand face frame parts and door styles and rails. Also how does it do on glued up panels? I just sold a 25 inch double drum sander and plan to buy a wide belt sander when the economy improves and am looking at the SF for the short term, and it looks to be useful for smaller projects in the future. Thanks in advance for you advice.

The major application for the Sand Flee is to finish-sand flat surfaces and panels. It makes a reasonable jointer for short pieces, no more than 3 or 4 feet long, but I would not trust it for longer pieces. It is not a thickness sander; there is no way to accurately control the thickness from one edge of the board to the other. However, this is rarely a problem since the machine removes so little stock with each pass. As I said, it is a FINISH sander. As far as sanding glued up panels, it does fine. I normally remove all the glue on the surface with a cabinet scraper before I finish sand; this saves sandpaper and speeds up the process.

One of the benefits of the Sand Flee comes when you apply the finish. The surfaces are perfectly flat with no high or low spots, no divots or bumps. Consequently, the finish produces and even depth and sheen. I would never have guessed that this could make suck a diffence in the apprent quality of the finish if I hadn't tried it myself.

    With all good wishes,
    Thanks Nick.
