I am trying to find nitric acid to stain poplar with. Does it make poplar look aged and antiqued? and where can you buy it and about what is the cost?

Nitric acid turns poplar a reddish nut-brown, similar to air-dried walnut when you apply an oil finish. And yes, it looks antique. You can purchase laboratory-grade 70% nitric acid (HNO3) in various quantities over the Internet from Art Chemicals. See http://www.artchemicals.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=807020834&CartID=0&gclid=COyQ8JjQ2JwCFdxD5god0VvBKg . Before using it, I suggest diluting it 1:6 with distilled water to make a 10% solution. Remember your high school chemistry training for diluting acid: "Add the the acid to the wata like you oughta." Adding water to acid can cause a dangerous reaction.

    With all good wishes,
    Nick

PS -- Those of you wondering what Matt's talking about -- using HNO3 as a stain -- see http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/SS_Archives/SS103/SS103_Nitric_Acid_Stain.htm .

<p>dial. The Black Hull is all black, while the Black Flag as blue lume on the hands and numerals. Both watches tastefully undertone the flags in black, which are slowly becoming a vestigial element of the Admiral,s Cup line that seems to slowly lose significance. Here the flags are neatly placed along the chapter ring (or um, twelve-agon) around the dial in dark tones. You, <a href=http://www.yeardress.org/>princess wedding dresses</a> ll notice that the hands (main and especially subdial) as taken from the look of classic compasses <a href=http://www.yeardress.org/>evening dresses</a> . . <a href=http://www.yeardress.org/Flower-Girl-Dresses.html>cheap flower girl dresses</a> . What is really great about the Admiral,s Cup watches is the angular cases, <a href=http://www.yeardress.org/>quinceanera dress</a> large size, and large hands. It is a fine looking watch with nice components. Functions have varied widely from tide graphs to calendars, small seconds, and of course a chronograph. <a href=http://www.yeardress.org/>wedding dresses</a> . Not sure if they have a regatta timer though, they should. Tags: Breitling Watc This entry was <a href=http://www.yeardress.org/>mother of the bride dresses</a> . </p>
